Sixth Form
From September 1st 2009, Taverham High School will be designated an 11-18 school. This means it now has its own 6th form for which we are accountable. Here are the frequently Asked Questions we have received about this exciting new development:
- Q: Will all lessons now be at Taverham?
- A: In the foreseeable future we will still work with Hellesdon High School to deliver our courses. A few courses are also based at Costessey High.
- Q: What about accommodation for the 6th form?
- A: At the moment we have enough room to fit those classes we need to. However, as we expand demand will grow. The governors have now purchased a plot of land by the school and we are planning to use this for our 6th for base. At the time of writing (May 09) we are at the stage of developing the vision for the accommodation and investigating ways of funding the project which could be as much as £4 million.
- Q: What differences will there be next year?
- A: We have already asked out present year 11 pupils who are planning to come to our 6th form to volunteer to join a group to decide what we need to do for our 6th form students. I am pleased that many have already volunteered their services. We want to begin with the ethos of the student being at the centre of all we plan and develop for our post 16 offer.
- Q: Will lessons take place at Taverham?
- A: They already do! Many A levels are taught on our site.
- Q: What about transport between sites?
- A: This will continue to be free of charge.
This development will now allow Taverham High to work on a ‘level playing field’ with its partner 6th form schools in the Wensum Partnership. This is the beginning of a new era and direction for both the school and the area of Taverham / Drayton.
This web page will be updated regularly to keep you informed of developments.
