Welcome and thank you for your interest in Taverham High School
At the heart of all we do is our school vision:
Inspire, empower, achieve.
Taverham is a popular and successful 11-18 mixed comprehensive school in Norwich. We became an Academy on 1 April 2013 and have approximately 1200 students on roll, over 140 members of staff and an annual budget in the region of £5 million.
The school was redeveloped under PFI, opening in 2007 with quite spectacular new purpose-built teaching spaces. We also share exceptional sports’ facilities with the adjacent Taverham Recreation Facility. A new Sixth Form opened at the start of September 2013. The catchment area is very local with the majority of students able to walk to school and this means that we draw from a small number of feeder primary schools. Strong consortium links also exist with the other local secondary and primary schools. We are consistently over-subscribed with 8 forms of entry.
Academically, attainment is high and students make good progress at Taverham High School. The proportion of students passing five or more GCSE at grades A* - C (including English and maths) and making at least three levels of progress in English and maths far exceeds national expectations. Previously, the school was a very successful Sports College and developed a personal best ethos of high-level performance and teamwork which is still reflected in the school’s culture.
In our recent Ofsted report the inspectors made the summary judgement that the school continues to be good. Ofsted have recognised that the school has a 'caring, nurturing ethos and a culture of high achievement which is based firmly on the excellent relations promoted between students and staff.'
Extra-curricular activities are an important part of school life. There are extremely strong musical and sporting traditions but we are also proud to be involved in projects with local schools; with schools nationally; and with schools abroad, most notably in France, Germany and China. Our annual expedition has given students the opportunity to travel to Ghana, Romania, Peru and in 2013, to Borneo.
The Governing Body, which represents a broad range of interests and backgrounds, has a clear committee structure and provides strong and sensible challenge.
