What makes a successful independent learner in the Sixth Form?

Being a successful Sixth Form student is an exciting and challenging stage in their education and requires a shift in their working practices.  An integral part of post-16 study is learning to work independently; good planning and time-management skills are therefore essential.  Students need to take time to read widely around the subjects they study, explore online for additional resources and practice key skills.  Experience tells us that the students who achieve their potential are the ones who take the greatest responsibility for their own progress.  This session explained why independent learning is so valuable and provided some strategies and activities that Sixth Formers can use to maximize their performance both in Years 12-13 and beyond at university or in employment.  The session was aimed at parents/carers and how they can support their child/ren with these skills.
